TREMATODE INFECTION IN KOREA

Abstract
Clonorchis sinensis and Paragonimus westermani have long been recognized as being highly endemic throughout the country in Korea.
Previous investigations into the prevalence of infection with trematodes were reviewed with emphasis on the liver fluke and lung fluke.
It is estimated that in South Korea alone some 4. 5 million people are infected with clonorchiasis and up to 1. 5 million with paragonimiasis.
Additionaly, the intermediate hosts, clinical findings, recent chemotherapeutis and control methods have been discussed based on the information cited in this review.
This is to provide an adequate basis for evaluation of the situation in regard to these parasites and for the establishment of control measures.
Valuable data have been illustrated in tables in English.
